RUSSIA blames "UKRAINIAN SABOTEURS" for the ZAPORIYIA NUCLEAR POWER PLANT fire

The Ukrainian nuclear power plant in Zaporiyia, the largest in Europe, was hit on Thursday night by missile and tank shells fired by the Russian Army. The attack has generated a dangerous fire that could have caused a nuclear catastrophe on European soil. Ukrainian President Volodymir Zelensky has accused Moscow of "nuclear terrorism". However, according to Russia, the incident was the result of a "provocation" by a Ukrainian sabotage group. "On March 4, around 2.00 a.m. (...) a Russian patrol came under attack by a Ukrainian sabotage group. Aiming to provoke fire at the building, the troops were attacked from the several windows of the power plant's training center," explained Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov. Konashenkov added that the Russian servicemen responded to the attack by "Ukrainian saboteurs" and that the latter started the fire in their retreat. "The aim of the Kiev regime's provocation at this nuclear facility lay in the attempt to accuse Russia of creating a source of radioactive contamination," he said. According to Konashenkov, Russian troops have been in control of the town of Energodar and the nuclear power plant since February 28.
