Spain's Congress approved a bill that seeks to grant Spanish nationality who take one of the names that appear in this paper and prove to be descendants of Sephardic Jews. According to the Spanish authorities, the measure seeks to amend a "historic mistake", because in 1492, 100,000 Jews were expelled from Spain. Those who have these surnames prove whether or not living in Spain may obtain dual citizenship. "Those foreign nationals Sephardic proving that condition and its special link with our country, even without legal residence in Spain, whatever their ideology, religion or beliefs," says Article 23 of the Civil Code.
