Taiwan Earthquake March 27 2013

A 6.5-magnitude earthquake hit central Taiwan on March 27, 2013, leaving at least one killed and 19 injured, according to local authorities. The earthquake occured at the Nantou County at 10:03 a.m. (Beijing Time), with a depth of 8 km, at about 24.0 degrees north latitude and 121.0 degrees east longitude, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center. Local earthquake authority in Taiwan put the quake at 6.1 magnitude. According to local TV station reports, many people were injured in Nantou by falling ceilings and Taiwan's railway and metro networks were temporarily suspended for safety checks. Residents in Taipei also felt a strong tremor. Taipei's metro system has resumed service at 10:15 a.m..
