7.2 quake rocks Turkey, up to 1,000 feared dead

VAN, Turkey -- Up to 1,000 people were feared dead after a magnitude-7.2 earthquake rocked eastern Turkey today. "Five hundred to 1,000 people are estimated to have been killed in the quake," Professor Mustafa Erdik, director of the Kandilli seismological institute in Istanbul, told a news conference.
