China launches first cross-sea bullet train line

China launched its first cross-sea bullet train line on September 28, 2023. The new rail line will travel across three bays along the coast of the southeastern province of Fujian near the Taiwan Strait. Fujian, which sits opposite Taiwan, is geographically and culturally the closest part of the mainland to the island. The move came as China recently unveiled plans to turn Fujian into a model zone for integration with Taiwan.
