Hidalgo leaves the PRI behind and its new Governor inherits the legacy of more than 9 decades of backwardness

In what has been called a "historic day", Hidalgo, a state located in central Mexico, left behind almost a century of Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) governments. Julio Menchaca, of Morena, its new Governor, took office on Monday and promised a dignified administration and a "transformation" focused on confronting corruption and impunity.
