Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe died on July 8, 2022, after he was shot while delivering a speech in Nara, Japan. Abe showed “no vital signs” after the attack. Police arrested a man described as a suspect in the attack. Abe served two stints as prime minister, including a nearly eight-year run from 2012 to 2020 – the longest uninterrupted time in office for a Japanese leader in the nation’s post-war era.
