Mother Of Gay Bullying Victim Seth Walsh Speaks Out On The Nate Berkus Show

In this photo handout from The Nate Berkus Show, Nate Berkus surprises Wendy Walsh, the mother of 13-year old Seth Walsh who hung himself this past September after years of bullying for being gay, and her younger son Shawn, with a newly decorated space in Seth's honor at the NYC's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center for LGBT teens. This emotional moment, which was taped on December 13, will air along with a daytime exclusive interview with Wendy who sits down with Nate in-studio for a very personal episode, "Rebuilding Home After Tragedy," of the nationally syndicated, The Nate Berkus Show, airing December 29 (check local listings; or visit www.thenateshow.com) On December 29, The Nate Berkus Show (nationally syndicated, check local listings) features a daytime exclusive when Nate sits down with Wendy Walsh, mother of the 13-year-old Seth who committed suicide this past September after enduring harassment for being gay. This is a deeply personal hour for Nate. The string of recent gay bullying cases and suicides have propelled the daytime host to raise awareness of this issue and to pay it forward by redesigning the youth lounge at YES, a LGBT community center in New York. The makeover, unveiled on this special episode, was Nate's way of creating a true home away from home for these teens, a respite where they can just be themselves. Country music star Chely Wright, who came out this past year, reveals the new space to the young adults; and Nate returns to the center to unveil a very special surprise: the fact that the center has been named in Seth's honor. Lastly, viewers will get to see for the first-time ever Nate's PSA for the "Give A Damn" campaign, an organization dedicated to spreading a message of understanding and tolerance. The one-hour, emotionally charged episode, "Rebuilding Home After Tragedy," features Nate talking to Wendy about her son, their home and how she and her other three children are coming to grips with this devastating loss. They are also joined by Seth's younger brother Shawn, 11, who talks about how he tried to protect Seth at home and school and what he wants other kids to know about the devastating effects of bullying.
