Aurora Borealis incredible show in Minnesota USA

Metanews: The Northern Lights have put on a spectacular show over the skies of Minnesota. The Aurora Borealis began shortly before midnight on Tuesday and lasted through until dawn displaying shades of red, blue and violet amid the main pale yellowish-green colour. Those who stayed up to watch were treated to many forms of the aurora ranging from patches to streamers and ripples. The legend of the bright dancing lights says aurora was the goddess of the dawn. In medieval times, the lights were seen as bringers of war of famine. While the Inuit of Alaska believed the lights were the spirits of animals they hunted such as seals, salmon and deer. Researchers say the auroral activity is cyclic, peaking around every 11 years with 2013 being a peak period. The lights are collisions between electrically charged particles from the sun that enter the earth's atmosphere.
