At least 28 people have died and 66 are missing due to the strong storm that since last Sunday, affects the central and southwestern China, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Civil Affairs to disclose the official Xinhua news agency said Thursday. Severe flooding and landslides caused by torrential rains, sometimes accompanied by hail, have affected 1.67 million people, according to the agency. More than 80,000 people were affected and some 10,000 were evacuated after heavy rain in the city of Wenchuan, the epicenter of the earthquake in Sichuan in May 2008 and caused 87,000 deaths, In neighboring Yunnan province, four people died in the region of Suijiang, while about 28,600 were affected by the rains and more than 5,820 houses collapsed during the storm. It was also reported that in the central province of Henan's floods caused by torrential rains ended the lives of four people. The central and southern China suffers every year, especially in the summer months, flooding and related natural disasters, which in 2010 caused a record 4,000 fatalities, the highest number in a decade, according to official data.
