David Schuit, who runs a honey operation in Elmwood has lost 600 beehives. He is pointing to insecticides known as neonicotinoids, which are manufactured by Bayer CropScience Inc. This also comes after a recent report published by the British Beekeepers Association (BBKA), which posted its biggest loss ever bee before vist. The European Union has taken a step forward, with the prohibition of multiple pesticides that have been linked to the deaths of millions of honeybees. The loss comes after corn planting. Neonicotinoid pesticides are used to grow corn with pneumatic seed coat, resulting in blowing dust pesticide in the air when planted. The death of millions of pollinators was studied by Purdue University. They discovered that bees exhibit neurotoxic symptoms. Dead bees were analyzed and found that traces of thiamethoxam / clothiandin were present in each case. The only significant source of these compounds are the treatments of field crop seeds. . the bee deaths are increasing exponentially. An international team of scientists led by the University of Utrecht, Netherlands, has come to the conclusion that, "prophylaxic scale agricultural use, high persistence in soil and water, and plant uptake and translocation flowers, pollinators neonicotinoids threatening. This is part of the investigation that led to the ban of the European unions of pesticides, as mentioned and referenced above.
