Fans told to leave the building after ‘sickening’ incident as ice hockey star Adam Johnson ‘takes cut to the throat’ AN ice hockey match between Nottingham Panthers and the Sheffield Steelers has been abandoned after ice hockey star Adam Johnson suffered a horiffic injury. Fans were asked to leave the stadium due to a "major medical emergency". According to a fan in attendance, Johnson, 29, suffered a cut to his throat in a horrific incident. Around 8,000 fans are believed to have witnessed the collision between the two players at Utilita Arena Sheffield this evening. The game was quickly stopped before screens were brought in to give the player and medical staff privacy while he received medical attention. Paramedics were quick to rush to the scene before the player was rushed to hospital. The Nottingham Panthers official Twitter account first tweeted: "Players are returning to the locker rooms." The account then provided an update that: "Fans have been asked to leave the building due to a major medical emergency" Horrified fans took to Twitter to express their horror and concern at the incident. One fan wrote: "Stuff of nightmares at the panthers game tonight, praying for Adam Johnson." Another wrote: "That was undoubtedly the worst thing I’ve ever seen happen, I’m so sorry. We’re all (Steelers family) absolutely sick with worry, praying for a miracle. From our #hockeyfamily to his, we have everything crossed." A third fan wrote: "Sending prayers from a Storm fan #hockeyfamily is far more important than team rivalry. Hope he is okay. Thoughts with his family, fans and team-mates." A fourth wrote: "Thoughts are with everyone who witnessed the incident tonight and love and prayers to Johnson. Manchester is with you."
