Indonesia bans e-commerce transactions on social media

Indonesian Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan announced a ban on e-commerce transactions on social media platforms. The ban, which took effect on September 27, 2023, aims to protect traditional offline retailers in Southeast Asia's biggest economy. But some sellers on TikTok are worried the new measure would hurt them most as the majority of transactions conducted there are through the short-video platform.
