SHREK; Character is based on a real person ....

When we think of Shrek, we immediately think of a green ogre with a noble heart and a unique sense of humour. But did you know that this lovable character has his roots in reality? Surprising as it may sound, Shrek is based in part on a real person, and his story is a fascinating example of how creativity can come from the unexpected. The genesis of Shrek can be found in a children's picture book by author and artist William Steig, published in 1990. In this work, entitled "Shrek!", a lonely ogre is presented who, despite his ferocious appearance, possesses a sensitive heart full of kindness. This ogre, like the Shrek we all know, is involved in comical and touching situations that defy the expectations others have of him. The connection to reality becomes more apparent when we consider the inspiration behind this character. While it cannot be directly attributed to any one person, Steig admitted that Shrek was influenced by his own personality and experiences. In addition, the name "Shrek" in Yiddish means "fearsome" or "frightening", reflecting the character's appearance, but also his gentle nature in contrast. However, Shrek's most significant transformation came when DreamWorks Animation decided to bring him to the big screen in 2001. The creative team took the essence of Steig's ogre and brought him to life through a combination of av-tech and animated filmmaking.
