Dozens dead in gas explosion in barbecue restaurant in northwestern China

A gas explosion in a barbecue restaurant in northwest China’s Ningxia Hui autonomous region has killed 31 people and left seven others injured. The explosion on June 21, 2023, in Yinchuan happened during the dinner rush hour. Reports said staff smelled gas an hour before the blast, which the local government on WeChat said happened while a gas tank valve was being replaced. Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for “all-out efforts” to treat the injured.
