Shark Chomps Through Teenager's Surf Ski A teenager escaped injury when a shark attacked his surf ski during a race at a popular beach in Adelaide, South Australia, on Sunday, October 23. Nathaniel Drummond was competing at Seacliff Beach when he says the shark flung him into the water. The 19-year-old told local media that the shark attacked him from behind and he only saw the animal once he was in the water. “All of a sudden I felt my ski just lift above the water and next thing I knew I was in the air and then I was in the water,” he said. “I saw this figure just kind of fall back into the water, and it was a big shark.” Media reported Drummond became stranded in the water with the shark, as nearby competitors rushed to drag him onto another surf ski and take him to shore. Video recorded by Jason Nejman shows Drummond’s ski being taken from the water with a large section removed from the centre. Spokesperson for Surf Life Saving South Australia, Daniel Willetts, told media that a shark tooth was removed from the ski and was being examined by Flinders University to identify the species of the shark.
