Dramatic footage shows wedding interrupted by Beirut blasts
Exclusive footage obtained by Ruptly shows a wedding at a church in Ain El Remmaneh, close to Beirut, on Tuesday at the moment when twin blasts rocked the capital’s port area. The video captured the wedding guests inside the venue before the blast waves are felt inside the church, leading to panic among the attendees, among whom were bride Rita Assaf and groom Tony Abou Rachid. Another woman and man are seen making the sign of the cross in the direction of the altar before a blast wave sends them fleeing from the church. No one was reported to have died or sustained serious injuries at the wedding ceremony. Broken glass and damaged windows, as well as a massive plume of smoke rising over the Lebanese capital, were also captured in the dramatic footage. On Tuesday afternoon, the two powerful explosions rocked Beirut's port area, resulting in the deaths of at least 157 people and injuring more than 5,000, according to preliminary reports. Both figures are expected to rise as search and rescue efforts continue. On Friday, Lebanese President Michel Aoun said that he didn't rule out the “possibility of external interference through rocket or bomb or other act” being behind the blasts, as an investigation into the incident is set to begin.
