Waiter Denied Tip and Left Racist Note in Texas

The clients, apparently, made sure that Khalil Cavil was warned. They marked his name on the receipt and wrote a note: "We do not tip a terrorist." Cavil is a waiter with African-American and white features, 20 years old, who speaks openly about his Christian faith and who wants to get the title of theology. "Khalil" was the name of his father's friend who had died in an accident. His father had thought a lot about that friend and liked the name, which meant "friend" in Arabic, so that was the reason why, according to his mother, he was nicknamed that way. Maybe it was the name, or the appearance, or both, that made those clients accuse Cavil of being a terrorist, according to Jamie Swindle, but she is not sure about that. "I do not know what those people were thinking, they saw the name, but I do not understand how someone wants to do something like that." Cavil, a waiter from Odessa, Texas, said the note he received on Saturday night from one of his tables left him speechless and "sick to his stomach." The next day, he posted an image of the note on Facebook, where he has since shared more than 19,000 times and obtained almost 8,000 comments, most of which were positive. "Share this because I want people to understand that racism and hatred still exist, although this is not new, it is still something that will test their faith," said Cavil, who did not respond to a request for comments from The Washington Post
