Terrorist attacks in Peshawar near the high security area New

At least three huge explosions were heard in the Saddar area of Peshawar, Pakistan on Monday (April 5) in what appeared to be rocket attacks. The explosions took place on Shama Chowk, where US consulate and a police station are located and it is suspected that these could have been the targets. According to some reports, as many as five blasts were heard in quick succession followed by firing but it was unclear whether it was an exchange between terrorists and security forces.The area in the northwestern city, which is a very high security zone was cordoned off by security personnel. Following the blasts there were reports that parts of the US consulate building had been damaged. Eye witnesses said they saw some injured taken away to ambulances, but there was no official information about any casualties. All civilians and vehicular movement was barred from the area and media kept at a safe distance. Earlier in the day there was a suicide attack during a meeting of the Awami National Party in the Lower Dir dictrict in North West Frontier Province in which at least 25 people were feared killed and at least 100 injured.
