#Florida awaits the impact of Idalia, now a Category 2 Hurricane

Idalia gained strength early this morning, 29 August 2023, and became a category 1 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale as it continues its advance towards Florida, United States, where it is expected to hit as a category 3. The tropical cyclone intensified 340 kilometres northeast of Cabo Atoche, in Quintana Roo, and 215 kilometres west-southwest of Dry Tortugas in Florida. Hurricane Idalia has maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometres per hour and gusts of 155 kilometres per hour.
