Pussy Riot in Russia sentenced to two years in prison
The three members of the Russian punk group Pussy Riot tried to sing in an Orthodox cathedral against Russian President Vladimir Putin, were sentenced today to two years in prison. The sentence was handed down by Judge Marina Syrova, adding that it can be appealed within ten days. The prosecution had asked three years in prison for Nadezhda Tolokónnikova, Yekaterina Samutsévich and Mary Aliójina, imprisoned since March. The three young women were recognized not guilty and insisted his actions qualify as "political expression in the form of art" and heard the sentence calmly and even smiles.
