Iraq major coalitions agree on an alliance in parliament

A breakthrough in efforts to form a new government in Iraq. The country's two major Shi'ite political coalitions, agreed on an alliance to form a single bloc in parliament. The alliance would bring together Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's State of Law coalition, which took 89 seats in the March election And the Iraqi National Alliance, which won 70. Combined they would be close to the 163 seats needed to form a government. Abdul Razzak Al-Kazimi, Coalition Member, said, "After rounds of talks between the representatives of Iraqi National Alliance and State of Law Coalition, which are based on national principles that aim to achieve the goals of our people despite the challenges, the two coalitions agreed to form parliamentary bloc."
