New Batman movie premieres

The Dark Knight", the new Batman film starring Christian Bale and the late Heath Ledger, premieres in Manhattan, as the Oscar buzz around Ledger mounts. The movie follows Batman, played by Bale, as he sets out to destroy organised crime in Gotham City for good, only to fall prey to the criminal mastermind known as the Joker. The performance by Ledger, who died in his Manhattan apartment in January of an accidental prescription drug overdose, has drawn rave reviews, fuelling speculation that he might be awarded a rare posthumous Oscar.
