Indonesian artists fight stigma to preserve ancient drag tradition

Indonesia’s ancient and spiritual cross-gender dance of Lengger Lanang is on the verge of extinction in the Muslim-majority country. Originating from 16th-century fertility and harvest rituals, the dance was once a highly revered folk art. But it is now being challenged in the country as prejudice grows against anything perceived as queer-related.
