TRAGEDY IN CD JUÁREZ | They didn't want to be deported and died in the flames
They were secured by Mexican immigration authorities during the operations, some of them were asking for money from motorists, some others were windshield wipers, but others were accused of committing harassment. Dozens of migrants who remained in the shelter of the National Institute of Migration began to riot after learning that they would be transferred to the south of the country, where they would be given a permit to circulate in national territory. Desperation led to the burning of mattresses at the only entrance and exit of the shelter, the flames got out of control, causing the intoxication of some migrants and the death of 39 of them and 29 injured. According to the INM, 68 elderly men, mostly from Central and South America, were housed in this space.
