Abortion Rights Banner Draped From DC Bridge After Roe v Wade Overturned
A pro-abortion-rights protester scaled the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge in Washington, DC, on Friday, June 24. The move came hours after the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade, which led protesters against the ruling, and groups in support of the decision, to take to the streets in Washington. The climber, who identified himself on Twitter as Guido Reichstadter, unfurled a lengthy green banner from the arch and then shot green powder from a cannon into the air. “If I can make it to the top of this ever-loving bridge, I know you can make it into the street,” Reichstadter said, alongside a selfie on the bridge. “If anyone wants to join me up here, it’s an easy amble up the arc.” The green flag and green powder represent the Green Wave movement in Latin America that helped secure abortion rights through mass civil disobedience, according to Reichstadter.
