This dog is trained to sniff out squirrel pox disease

A super-dog is on a mission to save the UK's red squirrel population: the dog is being trained to sniff out squirrel pox. Rufus, a six-year-old Springer Spaniel, is tasked with learning how to sniff out the disease, responsible for the deaths of thousands of red squirrels across the UK, with owner Caroline Finlay, 36. During the coronavirus quarantine, Rufus was trained at home and now spends his days scouring parks and forests to try to locate any red squirrels that may have the disease. So far, the canine has helped Caroline of Newtownards track and locate areas where the squirrel pox is spreading and loves her new role in protecting them.
