This app could detect dementia
by Todrick
Medical student Hamzah Selim, 23, devised a mobile application capable of detecting signs of dementia after using the Snapchat dog filter. Selim realized that the mobile's front camera followed the movements of his eyes, and that the same technology could be used to perform cognitive tasks. So he relied on artificial intelligence technology to create a series of fun augmented reality games to detect signs and symptoms of dementia. Mindset, the name of the application, is now in the data collection phase and anyone who wants to can download it and complete various tasks that monitor body movement using their phone's camera. Hamzah hopes the power of the British public will help fight the disease.
