Dragracing cop filmed speeding through traffic

US officer filmed drag racing on a police motorcycle has been forced to resign after footage of his high-speed street race was posted online. More than five minutes of video begins with a man on a red Honda CBR600 motorcycle sparking a friendly duel with the policeman on a Harley Davidson after pulling up beside him at an intersection on a busy street in Montgomery, Alabama. "Wanna race?" says the local man, who has been identified by Wave 3 News as Lawrence Lee Spillers. "I've got a turbo," the police officer replies, before speeding off from the intersection the instant the lights change to green. In a complete role reversal, Mr Spillers is forced to pursue the police officer through several intersections as they cross lanes and overtake other traffic before coming to an abrupt stop at another red light. Mr Spiller, who recorded the video with a camera attached to his helmet, agrees to a second race and their pair rev their motors before the light turns green and they speed off into heavier traffic. November 14, 2013: A US motorcyclist who filmed a police officer drag racing him at traffic lights has defended him, saying he shouldn't have lost his job. Montgomery police chief Kevin Murphy says the officer handed in his badge before he was fired and could now face charges for his actions. "For the very thing that we are out here enforcing the law, for an officer to cross that line and violate it, there's no excuse. I will not tolerate it and he is no longer wearing the badge," Murphy said. Mr Spillers, whose video has attracted thousands of views, told Wave 3 News he felt sorry for the officer, who "was just trying to have fun". "I don't think he should be charged with anything and I don't think he should have lost his job."
