#CCTV: Coach Disarms and Embraces Suicidal Student With a Gun

Authorities in Oregon released controversial footage of an incident from May 17, 2019, in which a sports coach disarmed a student who had brought a gun to the Parkrose High School in Portland. The video shows the moment coach Keanon Lower backs out of a school classroom with a gun in one arm, and 19-year-old Angel Granados-Diaz, who he hugs, in the other. Granados-Diaz had arrived in school with a gun concealed under his jacket and was reported to be preparing to commit suicide. Keanon Lower who is being heralded as a hero by many social media users since the footage went viral, saw Granados-Diaz pull out the gun, and stepped in to intervene. Rather than physically overcome the student, Lower embraced and consoled the teen, to disarm him instead. On the 10th of October, Angel Granados-Diaz was sentenced to three years of probation and ordered to undergo mental health treatment over the case.
