Pete Townshend Telling 7yearold Girl and Dad to Fck Off During Canadian Show

Pete Townshend has apologized to a 7-year-old girl he told to "f--- off" during a concert in Canada last month. The surly guitarist trashed the little girl and her dad in front of thousands of fans at a show in Hamilton, Ontario on Feb. 19 because she was on his shoulders holding a sign that said, "Smash Your Guitar, Pete!" Canadian media reported. Video posted on the Toronto Sun's website showed Townshend waving at the pair and snarling, "Don't wave that sign." "And don't bring your children," Townshend said into the mic. "I want to tell you two words, but I can't because you have a child on you." He then mouthed the ugly put-down. Eric Costello, 50, said he didn't know how to explain the insult to his daughter, Janey, who had begged him to see the legendary British band at Copps Coliseum. "I expect a 70-something-year-old man to respect the fact there's a seven-year-old girl standing in front of him," Costello told The Sun. Costello said he spent around $300 on two 15th row tickets for Janey's birthday. "I'd like him to know in some small way he broke a little girl's heart," Costello said. "Instead of being this joyous, momentous occasion, it turned into a sad, regrettable kind of incident." Townsend tracked down Costello with the help of a Canadian radio DJ and sent a written apology on Thursday. "Apologies and condolences from my side, and very best wishes to you and your family," he wrote, according to The Guardian. "I asked my friend Mike Tyler to find you so I could tell you that I am so sorry the story about us blew up the way it did, but also to tell you that I sympathize with you both," he wrote. "I was in rock star mode, the big mouth." Townshend was reportedly making arrangements to meet the pair in April.
