55 Earthquake in China leaves 30 dead 55000 affected

A magnitude 5.5 earthquake on the Richter scale jolted March 3, 2013 southeast China, leaving around 30 injured as local authorities confirmed. The latest statistics show that more than 2,500 houses were damaged and 700 collapsed. So far no casualties are reported. The quake hit Eryuan County, and struck at 1:41 pm (local time). The epicenter was in the town of Xishan with a depth of 32.8 km. Some 55,000 people in Eryuan were affected by the quake, authorities confirmed this in the province of Yunnan. They also said that they have placed some 6,000 tents, cotton coats and blankets in areas affected by earthquakes. Some 34 aftershocks have been recorded after the earthquake.
