Dave Phillips has first shave since 2011 after raising 2500 for charity

The 27-year-old stopped shaving on New Year's Eve 2011 after he decided to take facial hair growth to the next level and not shave for a whole year. Dave said: 'Everyone has been taking the mick but I've just had to get on with it. It is just a beard at the end of the day and my hair is about seven inches long. 'My fiance Lauren had our second child in September and I hadn't been able to kiss my newborn baby. That's one of the first things I wanted do when I shaved. 'Lauren has been great but I haven't had many kisses off her recently.' Dave, from Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire, has raised more than £2,500 for the armed forces charity Help 4 Heroes. And, to make matters even better, yesterday gave his 16-week-old daughter Lyla her first smooth kiss after he shaved the lot off to raise money for Armed forces charity. Warehouse worker Dave said: 'It's great to get it off. It was so uncomfortable and it itched really badly. 'It was so lovely to finally kiss and cuddle my daughter. It was really nice. I can cuddle right into her now which is lovely. 'I couldn't get right close to her before because the beard was six or seven inches long and she didn't like it at all, she used to cry. 'It's great that she doesn't anymore. She's a real sweety, I love her. I won't grow a beard like that ever again, if I do it will only be designer stubble, nothing more. It feels really different, it was just nice to get it off and finished with. A year is a long time to not do it. To look in the mirror and see that every day is not a nice thing. 'People think what is the matter with him. I have to keep explaining what was going on.' The dedicated father says he had received lots of great reactions about his resolution. He added: 'I'm really pleased with the amount of money I have raised. It will be just over £2,500 which is incredible. 'I'm really chuffed and really, really pleased. I couldn't have asked for more. 'I decided to do it for Help 4 Heroes as I have friends and family in the forces and I used to be in the Territorial Army. 'I don't know the people being helped by Help for Heroes but I wanted to give something back to them at the end of the day. 'I appreciate the sacrifice they have made for us at the end of the day.'
