Italian student protests turn violent in several cities

Riot police and students went head to head in several Italian cities over spending cuts in education, which students fear will diminish the quality of their education and chances on the job market. On October 5 police reportedly clashed with protesters in Turin, Milan and Rome after smoke bombs, paint bombs, stones and eggs were thrown at them, according to Italian news agency ANSA. Further marches also took place in Genoa, Palermo, Naples and Bergamo.
