London 2012 Merve Aydin Accident In 800 mts
Merve Aydin has starred on Wednesday one of the most moving scenes of the London Olympics. During the second series of the first qualifying round of the women's 800 meters, the Turk was injured while leading the race ahead of the two favorites, Russia's Mariya Savinova-winner in the end, and the American Alice Schmidt. Aydin came like a shot, but mid-career suffered a puncture on the twin. Everyone thought an immediate withdrawal. But she, every example of honor, decided to end the test. Had to run on one leg, crying her eyes out, while the audience cheered and I spent a standing ovation. He finished the race with a time of 3:04.35, almost a minute and a half of the winner. So ended his Olympic dream. Merve is not in the semifinals of the 800 meters, a test in which the main favorite to win the gold medal is the American Alysia Johnson Montano, but at least has earned a well deserved applause of thousands of fans for his tenacity.
